The prep girls basketball season isn't over yet for Gonzaga Prep, which went double-overtime to beat Inglemoor in the championship game of the Class 4A state tournament earlier this month. The Bullpups have accepted an invitation to the national tourney.
Gonzaga Prep, which beat Inglemoor in double-overtime to capture a second straight Class 4A state girls basketball championship a week and a half ago, has accepted an invitation to play in the Dick’s Sporting Goods/ESPN national high school tournament next month.
The WIAA granted a waiver to allow the Bullpups to extend their season, the same consideration the organization game the Rainier Beach boys team last year when the Vikings were invited to play in the boys portion of the national tournament.
Greg Lee of The Spokesman-Review has written this account of Gonzaga Prep’s selection to the girls event this year.
The Bullpups are led by point guard Laura Stockton, recently named The Seattle Times’ girls Player of the Year, and post Otiona Gildon, a first-team all-state selection.
