Thanks to The Seattle Times for its coverage of the Koch brothers [“Kochs plan to spend $900M on campaign,” Nation & World, ], their plan to buy our democracy and the Republican hopefuls who are quite prepared to sell it to them. And no thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court for its disastrous ruling that encourages the Kochs and the other billionaires and multimillionaires in their networks to secretly pour unlimited money into elections that promises government will be solely of the rich, by the rich and for the rich.
Let’s support a constitutional amendment to undo the Citizens United ruling. Insist our U.S. legislators to act to ban secret donations, force companies to report their giving to shareholders and shut foreign corporations out of electioneering. And return public, taxpayer-financed campaigns into our electoral life.
It’s time for the 99 percent to take back what the 1 percent is stealing — a nation built on justice and equal opportunity for all its citizens.
