WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont man who had been on trial for killing a man in the spring of 2015 has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter.
WCAX-TV reports the jury reached the verdict Tuesday in the case of 32-year-old Gregory Smith. Jurors were unable to reach agreement on the more serious charge of second-degree murder.
Police say the shooting happened after the victim, 37-year-old Wesley Wing, allegedly called Smith’s girlfriend a heroin addict and told her to get her drugs out of the neighborhood.
Prosecutors say Wing was shot five times.
