NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — The suspect in what authorities are calling the execution of two men in Massachusetts in October has been held without bail.

Carmelo Kercado Jr., of New Bedford, was held at his arraignment Tuesday after pleading not guilty to two counts of murder and other charges in connection with the Oct. 10 shooting deaths of 27-year-old Stephen Bodden and 28-year-old Fabio Tavares.

Prosecutors say the three men had been drinking together in a New Bedford bar in the hours before the killings then got into a car together. Authorities say the 35-year-old Kercado was sitting in the rear seat and shot both victims five times in the head and back.

He fled the area and was arrested in Concord, North Carolina, on Dec. 19.

His attorney did not argue for bail.
