SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty Scottsdale police officer working security at a mall fatally shot a shoplifting suspect who was armed with a gun and began to raise the weapon toward the officer.
The shooting occurred Sunday afternoon at Scottsdale Fashion Square when the officer was alerted to a man who was believed to have shoplifted.
The officer located the suspect inside a parking garage and ordered him to stop.
Police say the suspect was holding a gun and began to raise it toward the officer.

The officer then fired on the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the suspect hasn’t yet been released.
