LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an off-duty police officer was driving drunk when he struck and killed a woman last month.

Legal papers obtained by show Long Branch officer Jake Pascucci has been charged with careless driving, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. It wasn’t known Saturday if he has retained an attorney.

The charges against the 28-year-old officer stem from a Sept. 22 crash in Long Branch that killed 66-year-old Stanhope resident Karen Borkowski, who was attempting to cross the street at the time. She was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Pascucci told officers at the scene he had a green light and that Borkowski was jaywalking, according to dashboard camera video from police at the scene.
