BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — There will be no wine offered during Catholic Masses in Buffalo this weekend, nor will worshippers shake hands while wishing each other peace.
Fears over the spreading flu led Buffalo Bishop Richard Malone to issue several directives. He’s suspended the distribution of wine from a communal cup and is advising congregants to bow, rather than shake hands, as a sign of peace. Churches also must drain and disinfect holy water fonts.
They are measures being taken by churches elsewhere as well as health officials continue to track an ever-growing number of flu cases nationwide.
