GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Police in South Carolina fatally shot a 25-year-old man who fired at them early Saturday, police said.

W. Benjamin McClain III was one of two people police found in an office parking lot after Greenville police got numerous 911 reports of gunfire early Saturday, news outlets reported.

McClain ran into the building and shot at the officers from inside, Lt. Alia Paramore said in a statement. One officer shot back and killed McClain, whose body was found by a robot. Paramore said the second person was detained.

The office was that of attorney W. Benjamin McClain Jr., the Greenville News reported. A man and woman in the law office Saturday afternoon declined to comment and told the newspaper’s reporter to leave the parking lot.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating under standard protocol for shootings involving law enforcement officers.
