COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Northern Idaho officials say a Coeur d’Alene police officer six months on the job is expected to make a full recovery after being shot attempting to detain a man who was later found with gunshot wounds and died.
Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White on Wednesday morning says officer Charles Hatley is out of surgery after being shot in the abdomen Tuesday evening and is in good condition.
White says officers made a traffic stop and Curtis Ware started shooting at them and officers returned fire. White says another officer rushed Hatley to a hospital in a patrol vehicle and more officers arrived to search for Ware.
White says officers found Ware with several gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
