LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A man has been shot and killed near the train terminal in Lowell.

The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Lowell police say the shooting happened Thursday afternoon shortly before 12:45 p.m.

They identified the victim only as an adult male and didn’t provide details about the circumstances of the shooting as the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities said after being shot, the victim appears to have entered his vehicle, attempted to drive and crashed a short distance later. The Lowell Sun reports witnesses saw the car crash into a stop sign and Jersey barrier before the man exited the car and collapsed.

The newspaper said witnesses also saw a male passenger attempt to perform CPR on the fallen driver. The victim was transported to hospital where he was eventually pronounced dead.
