LONDON, Ky. (AP) — A woman pointed a pistol at a Corbin man accused of holding her and her 3-month-old baby against their will early Tuesday, authorities said.

The woman stopped on US 25W just after midnight to ask another woman if she needed a ride when 35-year-old James William Moore entered the vehicle, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

Moore instructed the woman to drive him to a location and threatened to kill them if she did not take him, news outlets reported Tuesday.

The woman drove Moore to apartments off American Greeting Card Road near a church. Moore told the woman to stop and exit the vehicle because he was going to take it, authorities said.

The woman refused because the baby was inside, and a scuffle ensued. Moore is accused of striking her on the side of the head and grabbing her around the throat.

At that point, she told him that she had money in her purse and would give it to him if he left them alone, authorities said.

The woman went into her purse, pulled out the pistol and pointed it at Moore. He took the money and fled. The woman has a concealed carry license, authorities said.

Deputies found him at a business a few hours later and arrested him. Moore was charged with several offenses including kidnapping – adult and kidnapping – minor.

Authorities have determined that the woman on the side of the road was not involved in the incident.

It was not immediately known if Moore has a lawyer.
