PICKENS, S.C. (AP) — A man has been convicted of shooting and killing a man in South Carolina more than two years ago.

Local media outlets reported that a jury in Pickens convicted 25-year-old Jaron Gibbs of Greenville on charges of murder and possession of a gun during a violent crime.

Prosecutors said Gibbs shot and killed 23-year-old Robert Porter of Six Mile after a failed drug deal in 2015.

Circuit Judge Letitia Verdin sentenced Gibbs to 35 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Porter and two other people bought drugs from Gibbs and realized they had been shorted and wanted their money back. Prosecutors said Porter followed Gibbs, who got out of a car in Clemson and confronted them before firing the shot that killed Porter.
