LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Clark County judge has formally sentenced a 27-year-old Las Vegas man to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2012 murder of a 10-year-old girl and her mother and a hammer attack that nearly killed the woman’s husband.

Last week, the same jury that found Bryan Clay guilty of the killings decided to spare him the death penalty.

Clay suggested during Thursday’s formal sentencing before Judge Larry Herndon that he intends to appeal his conviction.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports he told the judge, “We’re not done yet. It’s not complete.”

Clay was convicted of bludgeoning Ignacia “Yadira” Martinez and her daughter, Karla, to death and attacking Arturo Martinez.

Judge Herndon told him that no one capable of such crimes deserves to be in society.
