RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — Officials at the Rutland Free Library say they have a plan to reopen a popular meeting room by April at a cost of approximately $60,000.

The Rutland Herald reports the meeting room was closed in September after water damage caused ceiling tiles to collapse. Library director Randal Smathers said Wednesday that architects looked at the ceiling and told him that a fix would be to put up strapping to hold things in place and put a new set of acoustic tiles on the ceiling.

Smathers says the fix will end up costing less than ripping out the entire ceiling, saying the library would have had to pay an additional $35,000 for removal.

The overall cost of the repair is being paid though a $200,000 gift from the Sutnick family.
