PHOENIX (AP) — A Keams Canyon man was sentenced to two years and five months in prison for his conviction for assaulting a police officer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Hopi Indian Reservation.

Elan David Nash, 30, had previously acknowledged assaulting the officer during a June 2016 struggle in the reservation’s Polacca area.

The officer suffered a fractured hand in the struggle.

Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of three years and four months.

Nash’s attorney had requested a sentence of up to two years in prison.
