PROVO, Utah (AP) — An American Fork man accused of killing his stepfather last year will remain out of jail during court proceedings after a Utah judge denied prosecutors’ attempts to double his bail amount.

The Daily Herald reports the judge declined to raise Jace Zeeman’s bail to $100,000 during a Monday hearing in Provo after he already posted a $50,000 bail in September.

Zeeman is charged with murder for the death of Brandon Bourgeois in August. He has pleaded not guilty.

Utah County prosecutor Kelsey Young told the court that the medical examiner’s report indicated Zeeman’s intent to kill because he placed his stepfather in a chokehold after beating him.

Zeeman’s attorney John Easton argued the report didn’t provide much new information as Zeeman disclosed the chokehold during a police interview.
