CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — It’s the biggest day of the year for high school wrestlers in Illinois.
Nearly 700 have been competing at the state finals in Champaign and champions will be crowned on Saturday.
The Illinois High School Association event ran over three days at the State Farm Center, starting on Thursday. The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports it is one of the best attended events of the year at the center, averaging about 40,000 fans over five sessions.
The home court of University of Illinois basketball has hosted the IHSA finals since 1967. Crews will need to have the floor of the arena reconfigured for basketball by Sunday afternoon. That’s when the Illini men’s team hosts Nebraska.
