OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Authorities say they have begun to identify some people of interest connected to two cold case homicides in northern Utah from more than three decades ago.

The Deseret News reports the Weber County Sheriff’s Office has been actively investigating the deaths of 21-year-old Joyce Tina Gallegos and 14-year-old Gabriel Distefano, who were both shot to death in 1982.

Sheriff’s Lt. Nate Hutchinson says no arrests have been made, but progress has been made on the two cases due to advancements in DNA technology and new interviews with people associated with the victims.

Authorities say Gallegos was found dead in the Ogden River in August 1982. Distefano was found dead in Harrisville the next month.

A crime lab in 2008 determined the two victims were shot with the same gun.
