STERLING, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a state corrections officer shot an inmate who was trying to escape in northeastern Colorado.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office says the inmate, whose name has not been released, was shot at the county’s justice center in Sterling on Wednesday afternoon and is recovering from his injuries. The courts were closed for the day after the shooting, and the scene has been turned over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.

No other injuries were reported, and investigators have not released any other details about the shooting.

The sheriff’s office initially said multiple officers were involved, but the corrections department later clarified that only one officer opened fire.
