PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A troubled office building that forms an iconic piece of the skyline of Maine’s largest city has failed a fire safety inspection.

The Bangor Daily News reports that Portland’s well-known Time and Temperature Building was found to lack smoke detectors and sprinklers on several floors. The inspection also found loose wiring, broken emergency lights and blocked emergency exits.

Assistant Fire Chief Keith Gautreau says installing sprinklers will likely take time but other problems should be fixed quickly.

The newspaper reports that occupancy at the building has been falling, leading to foreclosure last year, and remaining tenants have complained of upkeep issues.

The building’s owner, CWCapital Asset Management, declined to comment.
