LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 29-year-old part-time cheer team coach at a Las Vegas high school has been arrested on felony child lewdness and abuse charges.

Clark County school police reported Tuesday that Joshua Andrew Balelo faces four charges on a criminal complaint filed March 9 stemming from allegations of an inappropriate relationship involving two female students.

Police Capt. Ken Young says Balelo was removed in September after five years as cheer coach at Spring Valley High School.

Jail records show that Balelo is being held on $25,000 bail pending an April 2 court hearing.

Defense attorney Gary Modafferi says his investigation shows Balelo is not guilty, and he is awaiting release on house arrest.

Young says Balelo was the sixth Clark County school employee arrested this school year on sexual misconduct charges.
