CHICAGO (AP) — It has been nearly three years since former President Barack Obama designated part of Chicago’s historic Pullman neighborhood as Illinois’ first national monument.
Since then not much has happened to restore the historic factory grounds of George Pullman’s namesake community.
And the Chicago Tribune reports the National Park Service’s visitors center, planned for the clock tower building, has been pushed back at least a year.
The neighborhood where the famous Pullman railroad cars were built was expected to draw 300,000 visitors per year by 2025. However, current annual attendance is 50,000.
