BOSTON (AP) — A fugitive who has eluded authorities for 20 years has been indicted for failing to appear in for his court sentencing in 1997.

U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Andrew Lelling’s office said Thursday that 51-year-old Luis Alberto Solano-Pimental faces one count of failure to appear in court. He’s been in custody since he was arrested in Warwick, Rhode Island in March.

Solano-Pimental has been a fugitive since he pleaded guilty to passport fraud in federal court in Boston in 1997 and failed to appear on his scheduled sentencing date.

Lelling’s office says the charge of failure to appear in court carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Solano-Pimental’s lawyers didn’t immediately comment.
