PARIS (AP) — A fire damaged multiple levels of the main science museum in Paris on Thursday, and two firefighters suffered injuries fighting the flames.
The blaze broke out overnight in a section of the Cite des Sciences in northeast Paris that is under construction, city fire service spokesman Gabriel Plus told The Associated Press. The cause of the fire is unclear.
It raged for several hours, prompting concerns that adjacent exhibit halls and the museum’s IMax movie theatre could also catch fire. But by midmorning, more than 100 firefighters had brought the blaze under control, Plus said.
The museum will stay closed Thursday and firefighting teams will continue to monitor for other fire risks. The sprawling museum complex houses interactive children’s exhibits as well as exhibits on space, light, geology and other subjects.
One of the firefighters was hospitalized with extreme heat exposure while the other suffered light injuries from smoke inhalation, Plus said.
