ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The Elko County Sheriff’s Office says it has acquired a new drone which it plans to use during special events, search and rescue missions, missing persons, crime scenes and traffic collisions.
According to a statement by the sheriff’s office, the drone will be used under the Unmanned Aerial System and will be operated by a “pilot” from a highly-trained team of officers in good standing.
The Elko Daily Free Press reported Tuesday that the drone will be equipped with video camera and a small battery.
According to the statement, the drone will not be used for random surveillance activities.

The sheriff’s office says it will be required to obtain consent for search warrants when there is a reasonable expectation of privacy in the case.
