PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper has been arrested on theft and weapons misconduct charges.

The state police agency announced the arrest in a news release issued just after 1 a.m. Friday but provided few details. The release did not name the officer or the circumstances that led to their arrest.

The release says only that the department was recently provided information that contained serious allegations against an employee and immediately launched an investigation.

They say the officer was booked into the Maricopa County jail on eight counts of theft and eight counts of misconduct involving weapons.

The release says the trooper has been suspended and the department promised more information later.
