ST. GEORGE, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina troopers say a driver did not stop after striking and killing a 3-year-old boy on a major highway.
Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers said Jayden Thiel was hit by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 78 just west of Interstate 95 around 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Brouthers said in a statement the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. David Jones says a special team of state troopers is investigating the crash to determine what type of vehicle hit the child.

Authorities have not said why the boy was in the road at that time.
