NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Two Tennessee police officers have been arrested on charges of searching the background check system unrelated to police investigations.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a Williamson County grand jury indicted former Franklin Police officers Britton Douglas Cornell and Ryan Wayne Dugger this week on one count each of official misconduct and official misuse of information.

The 25-year-olds went to Williamson County Jail each on $5,000 bonds.

TBI says Cornell and Dugger used the Criminal Justice Portal System for excessive inquiries on days off and after hours.

Franklin Police Chief Deborah Faulkner says both resigned amid an internal investigation.

Faulkner says there’s a pending request with the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards Training Commission to keep Cornell and Dugger from working as police officers throughout Tennessee.
