FILE–The Treasury Department unveiled in Washington the new version of the $50 bill in this file photo from June 1997. The bills aimed at preventing counterfeiting, feature a larger portrait of Ulysses S. Grant, a security thread and color shifting ink in the numeral on the lower-right corner of the bill. An estimated 30 million copies of the redesigned $50 bill is being withheld from circulation because of a tiny printing flaw, the Treasury Department said Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997. A decision hasn’t been made yet whether to destroy the flawed bills, which cost $1.44 million to produce, or put them into circulation later. (AP Photo/Treasury Department)
