If you’ve been daunted by reports of long security lines at airports in recent months and haven’t been able to get into the Transportation Security Administration’s PreCheck pre-clearance program, your chance might be coming soon — and now’s the time to make an appointment.
A temporary PreCheck enrollment center, with longer hours than normal, will operate for five days in August at the Seattle Airport Marriott. It’s part of a series of special sign-up days being held across the nation to help clear up a backlog of PreCheck applications that recently saw some applicants waiting for weeks or months for processing in some parts of the country.
Delays grew this spring as the number of applicants more than tripled, climbing to 16,000 a day on average in May.
The program, which requires a fee of $85 and a background check, is aimed at expediting airport security lines. PreCheck-approved travelers don’t need to remove shoes, laptops, liquids, belts or light jackets at security checkpoints.
The temporary Seattle sign-up center is to be operated by IdentoGO, a part of MorphoTrust USA, a contractor that handles all PreCheck applications. There is no added cost during the special enrollment period, which will be Aug. 9 through 13 in Seattle. Hours will be 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10, and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 11 through 13, at the Seattle Airport Marriott hotel, 3201 S. 176th St., Seattle. Advance appointments are required and can be made online at IdentoGO.com/tsaprechecktour (click on the “Apply Now” button). You must first fill out several pages of online forms with your personal information, after which appointments will be offered, including the special enrollment period.
