Seattle Times reader Mark Wangerin’s photo of a fluffy gosling taking shelter from a bald eagle.
Photographer: Mark Wangerin, Seattle
Photo taken: April 22, Alki Beach, Seattle
Photographer’s description: “This Canada goose hatched its young very near a bald eagle nest. During an eagle flyover, the goslings darted to the parent and stayed hidden under its wings. Finally one gosling emerged.”
Katie’s critique: “This photo is pretty much the definition of adorable. I love seeing the detail in the feathers protecting the gosling, which is emphasized by the nice, clean background. I wish the goose’s head was a little more in focus. Overall, a cute moment captured really well.”
MAY PHOTO CONTEST — EXTENDED!
‘Above and Beyond’
We’re looking for the view from above for this month’s reader-photo contest — whether you’re shooting photos with a drone (legal uses only, please), from an airplane or even from atop the Space Needle or a mountain peak.
Send us your best recent “Above and Beyond” photo and we’ll choose a favorite to spotlight in The Seattle Times’ Reader’s Lens feature next week. A Canon photo bag goes to the winning photographer. Submit by day’s end Sunday, May 28 to seattletimes.com/submit-photos.
