Seattle Times reader Debbie Peth Claus’ photo of a threatening San Juan Islands sky, tempered by a tiny rainbow.
Photographer: Debbie Peth Claus, Anacortes
Photo taken: Sept. 4, Decatur Island, San Juans
Photographer’s description: “We were first drawn to the unusual cloud formations and then this surprising, short rainbow appeared just before sunset. Taken with my iPhone 6.”
Katie’s critique: “The cloud formations are what caught my eye, too. I love that they are so ominous but that tiny rainbow is trying to make it into something a little brighter. The foreground is much needed in this photograph and adds another layer that is textured much differently than those clouds and then the smooth rainbow layer. Great photo — it makes me want to cozy up in a blanket and watch this storm roll through.”
