Readers grateful for help crossing downtown street, complain about stop-and-go traffic lights

RAVE To the gentlemen who helped me safely cross Third Avenue after an outing to the symphony. Walking with a cane, I misjudged how long I’d have to cross and was struggling to reach the far curb before the light changed. He not only assisted me, he risked his own safety, more than an act of kindness.

RANT To whoever messed up the synchronized traffic lights on Fourth Avenue. For years it was smooth sailing from Union Station all the way to Fourth and Denny, almost 3 miles of perfectly timed green lights. Almost poetic. Now it’s start, stop, start, stop. I want my Fourth Avenue back.
