The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Smokehouse Pet Products is recalling all of its Beefy Munchies products because they could be contaminated with salmonella. This is an expansion of an earlier recall and now includes all sizes and package types.

Beefy Munchies was distributed nationwide through distributors selling to various retailers and comes in individual bags, resealable bags and plastic tubs, according to the FDA. The plastic tub will be labeled “Beefy Bites.”

All sizes and packaging types will include a UPC code, lot number and a best used by date of stamped on the back, the FDA says.

Smokehouse Pet Products says no illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the problem, which was found during routine sampling and testing by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products, and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products, the FDA says.

Anyone who bought Beefy Munchies is advised to discontinue use, and the company says buyers can return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can contact Smokehouse Pet Products at 1-877-699-7387, Monday through Friday 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. PST.
