Photo taken: Oct. 12, 2019, in Republic, Ferry County

Photographer’s description: “A Clark’s nutcracker in Republic, Washington. Taken with a Nikon d850 and a Tamron 150-600mm lens.”

Critique: “It can be difficult to control the backdrop and surroundings in an image while trying to capture a subject like a fast, elusive bird. Here, the photographer does a great job with the scene, distinguishing the bird from the background. The sharpness of the bird brings out interesting details, such as the ripple of its feathers and the wind blowing the moss. I would suggest cropping the image tighter on the left and top to truly center the focus. For your next photo, try experimenting by capturing a bird in motion and showing its movement.”
