Seattle Times reader Jim Bartley’s photo of the New Year’s full moon rising over Seattle and the Cascades, with a ferry in the foreground.
Photographer: Jim Bartley, Bainbridge Island
Photo taken: Jan. 1, at Rockaway Beach, Bainbridge Island
Photographer’s description: “For the first supermoon of 2018, I set up a tripod-mounted Canon 5D Mark III with 100-400 mm lens to shoot moonrise. As a Washington State Ferries user and fan, I just had to include the Tacoma in the frame. Shot at 400 mm for 1/60 second, aperture f5.6.”
Critique: “It was a great choice to include the ferry in this frame. It helps create a nice layer in the foreground that stands out against the supermoon. Using the tripod with a slower shutter speed really helped keep the nice details throughout the frame.”
