Photographer: Terry Weiner, Ellensburg Photo taken: June 27, Chinitna Bay, Lake Clark National Park, Alaska Photographer’s description: “We were on a bear-watching adventure when we came across this brown bear (grizzly) with her two very young spring cubs clamming on the beach. Mom paid us little heed, but the cubs were very curious. Taken with a Nikon D3300 using a 55-200 mm lens.” Critique: “The contrast of the mother’s not-caring face and two faces of the bear cubs looking at the camera while standing straight up make this classic nature shot a lot of fun. The zoom lens at 185mm really lets viewers see the rainy and wet details of the bear family on the beach. The overcast light making the water uniformly bright gray really helps our eye focus straight to the brown bears.”
