This week's winner shows a mallard making its way through the water at a popular birding spot.
Photographer: Elston Hill
Photo taken: Dec. 4, 2018, at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
Photographer’s description: “Standing on the viewing platform, I waited for this female mallard to swim into the sunshine with the reeds in the background reflecting in the water. Shot with a Canon 7d Mark ii and a Canon 600mm lens II.”
Critique: “This image was well made, with a combination of a nice clean background (due to the long lens), sharp detail and warm light. Bravo to the photographer for planning out how they wanted to photograph the subject.”
