Where: Jennings Memorial Park

Location: 6915 Armar Road, Marysville

Length: About three miles of trails on 51 acres

Trail condition: Mostly dirt or gravel. The main half-mile walkway is paved and wheelchair accessible.

Facilities: Three playgrounds, ballfields, a garden and a fishing pond. Picnic shelter and restrooms. Also serves as headquarters for the city’s Park Department and a history museum (open Memorial Day to Labor Day). It’s a recreation hub with year- round community events including concerts and a “Popcorn in the Park” movie series in summer.

Setting: There are signs for Jennings Memorial Park and also Jennings Nature Park, though the city considers this one park, with a half-mile paved walkway connecting the areas. The park also housed a petting zoo until 2006.

There are 12 acres of wetlands on the south side, reachable by floating bridges, and six acres of conifer forest. The park includes 10 short trails, mostly on the south end. Most are unmarked, though the park is small enough to easily find them.

Highlights: After a recent renovation, the fishing pond is 2½ feet deeper, with plans to add park benches and trees and other landscaping around it in coming months. The loop path around the pond has been widened to 10 feet to make it more accessible to wheelchairs. The fishing pond, designated for children 12 and younger, is stocked with trout three times a year (though anglers have also reeled in perch).

The most popular attraction in the growing season remains the demonstration garden maintained by Washington State University Master Gardeners, featuring a variety of flowers, vegetables, herbs and fruits. Themes include the English cottage garden and the meditation garden.

Restrictions: Leash and scoop law in effect for pets. Park open daily, dawn until dusk.

Directions: From Interstate 5, take Exit 199 and go east on Highway 528 into Marysville. Turn left onto 47th Avenue Northeast, then take a slight right onto Arlington-Marysville Road/Armar Road and look for park signs.
