As if Bellevue didn’t already own the Eastside shopping scene, now you can add Underhills Fine Wood Furniture to the city’s plethora of options.

After six decades in business, the family-owned furniture company has opened its largest showroom at 620 106th Ave. N.E., Bellevue (425-635-9050), in the epicenter of the city’s retail boom. At nearly 28,000 square feet, the store is almost double the size of the company’s next-largest location in Lynnwood.

Greta Gustafson, director of advertising and marketing, said the company chose to open a store in Bellevue because its residents tend to stay in the city when they shop.

To prepare for the huge showroom, owner Tom Underhill expanded some of the furniture lines for the store and designed new ones. The store features traditional styles of living-room furniture, dining-room sets and bedroom furniture. The Bellevue store also sells more office furniture and has a children’s section.

Though the store carries furniture suitable to spacious homes, prices are reasonable. Most dining sets sell for less than $1,000, said Gustafson.

Look for expanded lines like the Blackstone Collection, which features an espresso finish and more contemporary fixtures. For a traditional yet modern look, Underhills has a new line called French Classics, an update of the traditional Louie Philippe collection.

The store will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a no-sales-tax discount Oct. 1-8.
