RAVE To everyone who leaves their Christmas lights on through the night so that those of us driving to work in the cold, dark early hours of the morning can enjoy some Christmas spirit. Cheers!

RANT To the impatient driver who couldn’t wait one minute for a line of geese to cross Lake Washington Boulevard, honking incessantly at the cars who’d stopped in front of him. It’s great to live in a place where we’re reminded of some of the “wild” animals with whom we share the city. Too bad Mr. Honker didn’t share those sentiments.

RAVE I had to buy 40 children’s gifts for my large family’s Christmas and used a local toy store who were so helpful efficiently selecting gifts. When paying, I moaned the fun was over because I have to do the wrapping, and they did that too! That level of service can usually only happen in an independent store.

RANT To the police car speeding through a busy intersection with lights flashing but no siren. I was traveling with a green light and couldn’t see the police car until it was in the middle of the intersection, seconds ahead of my car, yikes! Please use a siren when running red lights!

RAVE To the man who helped me chase down my dog in the Costco parking lot. The dog is a recent rescue that bolted when I opened the car door, catching me totally off guard.

RANT To people who use their phone at concerts and the theater. Your phone light and Facebook and Instagram postings bother everyone around you. If you’re so addicted to only viewing life through your phone, stay home instead of ruining the real-life experience of those of us who spend $60-$150+ on live concert and event tickets.

RAVE To the King County Natural Resources and Parks Department’s recent repairs and improvement to sections of the Sammamish River Trail, making it better for all who use it. Well done!

RANT To contractors who tear up the roads for construction projects and don’t patch the holes properly. Seattle roads are a mess!

RAVE To the young-at-heart souls at my local YMCA, especially the 77-year-old woman who recently started working out with a personal trainer to improve her posture and the 86-year-old man who walks the track daily. You’re all an inspiration.

RANT To King County Superior Court for processing a victim’s restitution check for 3 cents. My brother was murdered and his life is worth 3 cents every 10 years? This murderer should be working 16 hours a day in prison to pay his financial debt to the victims, the parents, brother, widow and children of the victim. This murderer took two lives, wounded others and left a path of sorrow and devastation for a number of families. He absolutely should be forced to pay more than 3 cents every 10 years to a victim of murder.
