RANT that I did not see a single Girl Scout cookie stand ANYWHERE to purchase their cookies! This is the first year I have not been able to buy any. What’s going on? I’m a senior and want to support them, but not via a machine. So sad and disappointing.

RAVE to the Uber driver who found and returned our cellphone and checkbook, which had been missing for several days. And he wouldn’t accept a reward. That’s great customer service.

RANT to companies that continue to send mail to people after being notified numerous times that the person has passed away. My husband passed away over five years ago, and yet a car insurance company still repeatedly sends requests to purchase their insurance. It makes me sad every time.

RAVE to the West Seattle office of the Department of Licensing. With the increased volume of clients as the REAL ID deadline approaches, these folks have done a great job of moving people through a sometimes frustrating and time-consuming process. Language barriers and politics notwithstanding, this office is much improved from DOL offices in the past.

RAVE to the 3,000 volunteers, participants and donors for this year’s community clinic at Seattle Center. Their generosity meant thousands in need received free medical, dental and vision care, plus social services, thus enhancing their health and quality of life.

RAVE to Les Schwab Tire Center and their efficient customer care, especially as a woman. Without my paperwork from a year ago, they accessed it from their records on site, explained the reason for a warning light coming on, and immediately directed me to their auto rack for inspection. Then, quick, appropriate service at no charge! Efficient AND personable!

RAVE to my neighborhood in North Seattle where, since March 13, 2020, at 8:30 p.m. every single night (for a year and a half), we met at our traffic circle and sang a song chosen by two awesome neighbors who, on alternate weeks, selected a song, emailed the lyrics and a video and brought a speaker that accompanied us. Well … The music continues! After singing at the traffic circle EVERY night for 1.5 years, in January 2022, we decided to meet ONCE a week at 8 p.m., and the group still has 10-20 participants and anywhere between 1-5 dogs! Folks from other neighborhoods join us. New friendships have formed, as well as deepening our community connections. We even had a wedding (mine!) on Aug. 22, 2023! There’s no end in sight for this crazy group, and we particularly love it when the days are longer and it’s still light at 8 p.m.!

RAVE to the Ace Hardware on Fourth Avenue. Every time I go in, all the employees are helpful, knowledgeable and, gosh darn it, just plain nice.
