And the 2015 James Beard award finalists are... nothing for Seattle in any restaurant category except Best Chef Northwest. Sigh.

Finalists for the 2015 James Beard awards have been named, and Seattle doesn’t have anyone in the running in any restaurant category except Best Chef Northwest.

Those nominees are:

Renee Erickson of The Whale Wins (and elsewhere) in Seattle
Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi of Joule (and more) in Seattle
Blaine Wetzel of The Willows Inn on Lummi Island (which we can honorarily consider Seattle to feel better)
Greg Denton and Gabrielle Quiñónez Denton of Ox in Portland

• Justin Woodward of Castagna in Portland

As a tiny silver lining, at least we don’t have to be jealous of Portland: It didn’t get any love outside the Best Chef Northwest category, either. (ICYMI, James Beard grew up in Portland and went to Reed College there before being expelled for being gay. Later, being a forgiving sort, he bequeathed the majority of his estate to Reed anyway.)

If you want to know who in the industry in town is feeling deflated right now, here’s the list of semifinalists from last month.

Eater took a statistical look at what kinds of people and places have been honored by the James Beard awards, and overall, it’s sadly predictable: Men have won way more than women, and places in New York City are hugely favored. (But then New York has way more restaurants, and women are terribly underrepresented at the higher levels of the restaurant world. Sigh.)
