A dress at the center of a controversy: the “nonsample-sized” Leslie Jones, in red Christian Siriano.
It was the fashion story of the month, if not the year: A few weeks ago, “Ghostbusters” star Leslie Jones tweeted her disappointment that no designer had stepped up to help her with a red-carpet dress — as is customary for a premiere this high-profile. The internet lit up, with flames fanned by a much-discussed Hollywood Reporter story which put the blame on Jones for not being a “sample size.” “Project Runway” alum Christian Siriano, however, responded to Jones’ tweet with a waving hand — and, just two weeks later, Jones walked the “Ghostbusters” carpet (which was, for the record, slime-green) looking stunning in a “Pretty Woman”-inspired, custom-made red gown that fit perfectly. “It shouldn’t be exceptional to work with brilliant people just because they’re not sample size,” tweeted Siriano, of the hubbub. “Congrats aren’t in order, a change is.”
