Break out of your shirt rut with five fresh variations that will see you into summer in style.
Got a closet full of the same style shirt? Maybe too much plaid or not enough color?
Break out of your rut with some fresh variations that will see you into summer in style. Here are five looks to try.
COLORBLOCK TEES
Colorblocking on the sleeves and pocket of tees is a trending look that adds polish to the trusty staple. To avoid looking like an extra in a Duran Duran video, eschew 1980s-esque color blocking in primary colors. Opt instead for earthy, natural colors. Another variation is a print on the sleeves and pocket — a great way to work in a floral or fun design in a subtle way.
DOTS & STRIPES
Surprise everyone with a button-down finished in dots or stripes, rather than plaid or check. Micro dots are particularly hot right now, and look great pattern-mixed with a checkered tie. Look for horizontal stripes for a more modern, interesting look than the typical vertical stripe. Worried about horizontal stripes making you look wider? Thin lines won’t do that.
V-NECKS & HENLEYS
Sometimes, getting a fresh look can be as easy as changing up your T-shirt style. Give your crew necks a break and try a V-neck for summer. A slouchier, lower V neckline looks modern. If you aren’t a V-neck kind of guy, try a henley, which adds polish and interest near the face.
HIP POLOS
Thanks to the normcore fashion trend (i.e. dressing like your dad), polos are hip again. Modern styles are cut slimmer for a fresher look and are made of finer fabrics for better drape. Contrast colors and color blocking can add additional interest.
LINEN
Try on a new fabric this season: linen. Don’t worry, it won’t be a wrinkled mess by the time you clock out at 5 p.m. This season’s renditions are made with a cotton blend to reduce wrinkles. Linen is cool and polished, and it’s the perfect piece for segueing from the office to happy hour (just untuck it for a more laid-back style).
