New jackets for men and women that repel wind and rain, are rugged enough to take camping and look great to boot.
Last week, it was sunny and breezy. This week, we’ll see rain, clouds and who knows what else. Must be spring in Seattle.
The solution, of course, is a new jacket, made for repelling wind and rain, and rugged enough to take camping this summer. Here are some picks for men and women.
Filson Cover Cloth Zip Up ($295 at Filson, Sodo). This is a water-repellent hoodie, people! It has soft flannel lining in the hood, reinforced panels for durability, a two-way zipper — and it’s made in Seattle, to boot.
Poler Breezy Jacket ($200 at polerstuff.com). Portland’s Poler always has great colors and prints. This lightweight jacket has a storable hood, back vents and is wind- and water-resistant. Women can wear it, too, of course, or opt for the slightly trimmer Flutter Jacket ($190).
Freeman Battenwear Packable Anorak Seattle ($255 at Freeman, Capitol Hill). Seattle’s Freeman takes your favorite jacket from the ’90s and makes it even cooler with a slimmer cut and white contrast details. And it packs into its front pocket, like every anorak should.
Snow Peak C/N Over Parka ($425 at snowpeak.com). The ultra-cool Japanese outdoor retailer’s unisex anorak is made of soft, water-repellent cotton, with a flattering drawstring waist.
Not sure it’s worth the price? Check out the brand in person, when Snow Peak hits town with Portland’s Tanner Goods for a pop-up shop at Sole Repair on Capitol Hill. The event will take place on Saturday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, April 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.. There will be discounted apparel, factory seconds, and bags and accessories. Sole Repair is an event space at 1001 E. Pike St., in Seattle.
Maloja LanceM. Waxed Cotton Jacket ($250 at REI) German company Maloja is about bringing style to performance gear, and this jacket hits the mark with a slim fit and almost denim look.
Kavu Novalee ($75 at Kavu, Ballard). Ladies looking for a little style in their windbreaker should check out this gingham shell. It won’t protect you from a downpour, but will take on showers, and its UV protection will ward off summer sun.
Arc’teryx Beta SL Jacket ($299 at Arc’teryx, downtown) Super-light and packable, this performance wear from Vancouver’s Arc’teryx is the jacket you want to always have around for sudden downpours. Available in men’s and women’s cuts.
Columbia Flashback Windbreaker Park Edition Jacket – Olympic ($60 at columbia.com). Start celebrating the National Park Service Centennial with this jacket that evokes ’80s style with a more modern, feminine cut. An arm patch honors Olympic National Park, and $1 from each sale goes to parks conservation. Olympic isn’t available in the men’s version, but other parks are.
