Now that you can see the light at the end of the winter tunnel, you may be ready to add some new life to your home.

You don’t need to start from scratch, though, to get spring fever for your place. One or two fresh pieces can be all it takes to bring a new attitude to a room. Here are some picks that work hard and reflect some of the best trends of the season.

The trend toward small-space living continues, whether by choice or necessity. The good news is, more companies are responding with pieces that are scaled down and multi-functional.

The Modern by Dwell Magazine Bar Trolley ($150 at is a standout piece from the new line for Target. It has hidden wheels so it can be easily moved, and can function as a bar cart, side table or even a compact bedside stand. Available in black with copper accents, or light wood with white accents.

Natural vibe

A casual, earthy vibe is a natural fit for Pacific Northwest homes, and it’s a big décor trend in general.

Ikea’s Stockholm Armchair ($149) and Cushion Set ($80–$100, out in April) lends a relaxed, natural feel to a classic armchair shape. Made from rattan, the airy piece can be finished with a cushion set in white cotton or gray velvet.
