What do you do? I’m the director of operations for Seattle-based DRY Soda Co. I’m in charge of production and distribution, and manage our product and packaging development process.

How did you get the job? In college I interned at Emerald City Beer Company when they were just getting started, and that sold me on working in the beverage industry. When I graduated from the University of Washington I landed an assistant position at DRY Soda that gave me exposure to all departments of the company. Operations piqued my interest, and I’ve been at it ever since.

What’s a typical day like? At a fast-growing, entrepreneurial company, my job is a huge balancing act. If I’m not out visiting one of our production facilities or meeting with our suppliers, you can find me posted up at DRY HQ working with the rest of the team on bringing our latest flavor and packaging ideas to life.

What’s the best part of the job? Product development! This year we launched new 12-oz. sleek can packaging and four new flavors. To go from looking at pictures of potential can designs and going through several versions of flavors to get the taste and sweetness just right, to walking into a grocery store to buy the new cans and flavors off the shelf is rewarding. Second-best part of the job? Cucumber DRY Soda mixed with a little gin at our Friday office happy hour.

What surprises people about your job? I really like my co-workers. The people I get to work with at DRY are amazing, and their commitment and passion for growing our brand is very motivating for me.
