Rides are whirling, pigs are racing, monster trucks are crushing and scones with jam are ready at the Washington State Fair Spring Fair April 14 to 17, in Puyallup.

There are rides from the Extreme Scream and roller coasters for daredevils, to Sillyville for the younger set and Giant Wheel and Antique Carousel for everyone.

Animal shows include Washington Shepherds’ Extravaganza, Pygmy Goat Show, Poultry Expo and cattle, miniature horse and llama exhibits. Kids can meet baby animals and try Barnyard Adventure faux cow milking and other chores at Fun on the Farm. Pigs race and Dock Dogs dive several times daily and dancing horses perform Friday through Sunday.

Lumberjack athletes compete in ax throwing, log rolling, sawing and chain-saw carving at daily Lumberjack Shows.

Free entertainment includes the KMPS Showcase with Jordan Rager on Friday, fireworks shows Friday and Saturday nights, and continuous stage and roving comedy and music daily. Get ready for the upcoming outdoor season at the Northwest Living and Garden display with vendors and the Outdoor Adventures exhibits on outdoor activities in the Northwest for all ages.

Twelve new food vendors join the onion burgers, roasted corn, barbecue, funnel cakes and all the returning fair favorite taste treats, including beer, wine and spirits for adult guests.

Motorsport Mayhem in the Grandstand features a Monster Truck Show at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Slamfest Demolition Derby at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday, all $15-$31 including fair admission, advance tickets available. See vehicles up close and meet drivers at Pit Parties included with show tickets Friday and Sunday, and take a ride in a tricked-out Monster Truck 2 to 6 p.m. Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday ($7 a ride).

Admission-discount tickets are available at Safeway and Fred Meyer stores, parking in fair lots is free, and Friday is Military Appreciation Day with free admission to active, reserve and retired military with ID and their dependents.
