Deadmau5 and Tiesto are the headliners at this year’s Halloween Freaknight party, which takes place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31, at the Tacoma Dome.
The 19th edition of Freaknight, the popular Halloween dance party, takes place at the Tacoma Dome and features two of the biggest names in electronic dance music — Deadmau5 (Friday, Oct. 30) and Tiesto (Saturday, Oct. 31). The Saturday show also features DJ Diplo, who sometimes performs under the name Major Lazer, and the Israeli psychedelic trance group Infected Mushroom. Friday’s bill includes Swiss-Chilean DJ Luciano, who’s known for integrating Latin beats into his music and for bringing EDM to Chile. More than 40 acts are scheduled to play this year’s Freaknight.
The event has taken place in several venues over the years, but its two-night stand at WAMU Theater in 2014 ended in tragedy, with the overdose death of a patron and the subsequent cancellation of the Saturday show. The performances at WAMU had been expected to draw 22,000 people per night.
Although USC Events, which presents Freaknight, provides a safety counseling crew, free water (to prevent dehydration) and officially prohibits drugs from the premises, EDM patrons often take the drug Ecstasy (also known as MDMA or Molly) before they arrive to enhance the dancing experience.
6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31, at the Tacoma Dome, 2727 E. D St., Tacoma; $110-$160 per night, two-night pass, $199-$299 (800-745-3000 or ticketmaster.com).
